UN Secretary General to talk climate with Mongolian leaders

Flood Devastates City, Ger Districts: 24 Dead

Six people died in Ulaanbaatar due to a flood following heavy rainfall last Friday.
Five of the victims were children between three months and 13-years in age, and three of them were from one family, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). An additional 18 people died in a prior flood that devastated Gobi-Altai on Thursday. Five adults and five children are reported dead in Tseel soum of Gobi-Altai Province, and eight people – including three children – near Tsankhlig River area in the same province.

Parliament Gives Government Power to Sign Oyu Tolgoi Agreement

The State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia approved a resolution that gives the Government the power to sign the Oyu Tolgoi (OT) draft agreement.
The decision was made during Parliament’s general debate session on Thursday afternoon. It came shortly after the Standing Committee on Budgets unanimously disagreed with giving tax holidays to Ivanhoe Mines and Rio Tinto – the developers of the OT Project.

Mongolia offers to help U.S. with N. Korea

Mongolia has offered to mediate between the United States and North Korea because of its good ties with both countries, and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has expressed interest, Mongolian Foreign Minister Sukhbaatar Batbold said.
