Lee Cashell, Founder and Chairman of the Board

Mr. Cashell is the Founder and Managing Partner of Asia Pacific Investment Partners, a privately held investment operating company founded in 2001. The firm is currently engaged in four industries in Mongolia including real estate development and management, tourism and hospitality, cashmere fashion retailing, and financial services.
Formerly a Greater China economist and financial analyst based in Hong Kong, Mr. Cashell has been living and working in Asia for fourteen years and has acted as an advisor to numerous technology firms, investment funds and government agencies throughout the region. Prior to founding Asia Pacific Investment Partners he served as a private equity fund manager for JAFCO Investments Asia, one of the largest private equity groups in the Asia Pacific region with over US$3 billion under management. At JAFCO Mr. Cashell was responsible for investments in the Greater China region where he focused on valuation arbitrage opportunities, internet technologies, construction materials, and infrastructure.
Mr. Cashell serves as the Director of Asia for US Corporate Ventures Group, an investment advisory firm based in New York serving middle market strategic investors with overseas expansion. Mr. Cashell is also a founder of Zero2IPO, a technology conference organizer and has been a contributor to publications including Business China, The China Financial Report, The Economist Intelligence Unit, and the Mongolia Real Estate Guide.
Mr. Cashell received his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware with a dual major in economics and political science and received his masters degree in international business from The American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). Mr. Cashell wrote his thesis on Emerging Market Portfolio Management with special emphasis on the emerging financial markets of the People’s Republic of China.

Formerly a private equity fund manager in Hong Kong, Mr. Cashell has been living and working in Asia for sixteen years where he has held various positions within the investment banking industry including China economist, financial analyst, and corporate finance manager.  He has acted as an advisor to numerous technology firms, investment funds and government agencies throughout the region.  Prior to founding Asia Pacific Investment Partners he served as a private equity fund manager for JAFCO Investments Asia, one of the largest private equity groups in the Asia Pacific region with over US$3 billion under management.  At JAFCO Mr. Cashell was responsible for investments in the Greater China region where he focused on valuation arbitrage opportunities, internet technologies, construction materials, and infrastructure opportunities.

Mr. Cashell is a founder of The Mongolian Institute for Sustainable Economic Development as well as Zero2IPO, a China based technology conference organizer.  He has been a contributor to publications including Business China, The China Financial Report, The Economist Intelligence Unit, the Mongolia Real Estate Guide and the Mongolian Financial Report.  Mr. Cashell is a member of the Pan Asia Chapter of the Young President's Organization.

Tsendsuren Bordukh, Trustee

Ms. Bordukh is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Mongolia Properties Construction Corporation, responsible for the construction of the firms residential high rise properties. She also serves on the board of Directors of Belgravia Mining, Altan San Securities, and Central Asian Cement.

She was formerly the representative of the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Beijing where she gained tremendous experience assisting Mongolian firms in their business development efforts overseas. Ms. Bordukh received her bachelors degree from The National University of Mongolia in Foreign Service.

 

Wesley Davis, Trustee

wesley davisWesley’s entire 15 years of professional experience has been devoted to Emerging Markets spanning a wide range of roles, products and geographies.  He spent over seven years on the trading side of the business as a market maker and proprietary trader of Credit Default Swaps and options on FX as well as fixed income products in both local and hard currency.

While initially based in New York and focused on Latin America, Wesley was relocated to London eleven years ago to assist in developing markets in the Former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and South Africa.  He then transitioned to the E.M. multi-product institutional sales team and covered some of the largest Hedge Funds and dedicated E.M. investors in Europe.  After driving the illiquid credit origination business from the sales side Wesley switched to an origination role in 2007 to focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and other “frontier” markets.  His product mandate was broadened to include private equity, illiquid credit, hybrid instruments, listed bonds, syndicated loans, ratings and investment banking advisory work.

Recent successes include:

-Signing a Public Private Partnership mandate with Lagos State Government, Nigeria, for a multibillion dollar infrastructure development project (road, bridge, light rail.)

-Raising over $325mm for Nigerian Banks including the first offshore financing to utilize the “NIFEX” fixing as a reference rate to overcome lack of currency convertability.

-A comprehensive $3.5bn funding solution for the Federal National Mortgage Bank of Nigeria to construct housing units for the Federal Police Force and other public sector employees.

-Closing the first offshore synthetic funding solution in Vietnamese Dong for The Vietnam Development Bank ($100mm equivalent.)

 

Otgonbat Sedbazar, Trustee

Mr. Otgonbat Sedbazar Advisor to Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy since October 2008. Prior to that he has been working as Advisor to Minister of Industry and Trade between 2007-2008. During the years 2001-2007 as the Vice Chairman of Foreign Investment and  Foreign Trade Agency, (FIFTA)Government implementing agency in charge of foreign investment and export promotion. He joined FIFTA in 2001 after having worked over 10 years in the private sector in the management capacity . Areas of practice include tourism, real estate development, trading in agricultural products.
He often speaks at the seminars and conferences regarding foreign investment and business climate of Mongolia, published numerous interviews and reports in the leading international business media.
Otgonbat received his J.D. from “Tsog” university, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and has also studied computer science in Michigan , USA and received his MBA from Maastricht School of Management (Netherlands)  He is fluent in Russian and English languages.

Chairman of the Board of directors of the Mongolian–Japanese Chamber of Commerce.
He is an elected Presidium member of the City Council of Ulaanbaatar-Capital city.

Mr. Otgonbat Sedbazar has been Advisor to the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mongolia since October 2008.
