Mongolia Institute for Sustainable Economic Development

Mongolia is a landlocked country bordered by Russia to the north and China to the east, south and west. With an area of more than 1.5 million square kilometers, it is the world’s seventh largest country. The southern third of Mongolia is dominated by the Gobi Desert that continues southward into China. While part of the desert is true desert, much of it is classed as desert steppe and has sufficient grass to support scattered herds of sheep, goats, and camels.
